We adore a mysteriously complex pop diva, and Lana Del Rey ticked another box on Thursday when she was spotted working a shift at a Waffle House in Alabama while dressed in uniform.
This time inside a Florence outpost of the well-known restaurant chain, the singer/songwriter, who was born in New York, has been spotted this week in several Alabama cities, pleasing fans with selfies and positive energy.
Karina Cisneros Juarez, a local of Muscle Shoals, met Del Rey and even took a photo with the singer. It would be an understatement to say that I am ecstatic. Juarez wrote a post on her Facebook wall. “Meeting Lana Del Rey today was truly insane,” said the fan who has been a huge Lana Del Rey admirer for more than ten years.
Even better, Del Rey included her signature to a copy of her 2019 book “Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass.”
Juarez said to AL.com, “She was there, wearing a uniform and everything.” It was a little strange. I simply expressed to her how much I admired both her music and body of work. She was really sweet and gorgeous.
“Casual day in Florence meeting Lana Del Rey,” fan Macy Ladner wrote on Facebook beside a picture of the singer and herself inside the eatery.
It was fantastic! She was so genuine and down to earth with us, Ladner told AL.com. “Discussed our jobs as teachers and how she’s working on a new recording with me and my friend.”
Photos and footage of Del Rey working behind the Waffle House counter, refilling a cup of coffee, and serving a client were also posted on Twitter by the user @honeymounz. They even posted a close-up of the nametag of the vocalist, which reads, “LANA.”
On North Court Street in the heart of Florence, Alabama, on Tuesday night, Del Rey was also seen signing the left arm of cosmetics artist Savana Vinson. Vinson posted a video and other cool pictures from her brief interaction with Del Rey, who in the pictures Vinson and other admirers have shared appeared composed and beaming.
Her singles include “Summertime Sadness” (almost 1 billion Spotify streams), “Video Games” (over 700 million streams), “West Coast” (around 500 million streams), and many others. She is known for her dark and immersive compositions. She released her first album under her own name in 2012, “Born to Die,” “Ultraiolence,” and “Blue Bannisters” in 2014. More than 11 million people follow Del Rey on Facebook, and she has more than 5 million Instagram followers. She also has more than 14 million YouTube subscribers. Six Grammys have also nominated her.
According to Matt Wake of AL.com, “Her hushed vocals and auteur production are a clear influence on Gen Z superstar Billie Eilish.” The singer was seen out and about in Florence, Lanaboards.com reports, “dining out for pizza.” Del Rey posed for photographs with several of her fans while donning a blue mini-dress, a denim jacket, trainers and stylish eye makeup.
Del Rey reportedly stayed at the Marriott Shoals hotel while in Florence, according to AL.com. She was also sighted in Birmingham, where she was purportedly observed by fans at a Starbucks and a nail salon. Jordan Settles, a fan, wrote on social media, “THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE,” after stumbling onto Del Rey at a “random Birmingham nail salon.” She made me feel as though I had known her forever. She was so nice.
And why is Del Rey visiting Alabama? Wake stated that although she has a few festival appearances planned, she is not currently on tour. In March, she published “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” her tenth studio album, which immediately shot to the top of the charts throughout the world. In the second stanza of the song “Paris, Texas” off her most recent album, she sings, “I took a train to Spain, just a notebook in my hand/Then I went to see some friends of mine, down in Florence, Alabama.”
When AL.com inquired about whether Del Rey had been recording with the renowned Shoals recording companies FAME companies and Muscle Shoals Sound, they were informed that she had not.
